Highly recommending The Candied Yam for your next home-cooked meal away from home!
Generally, you judge a restaurant on 3 main categories: food, price, and service. This place has all three! We started with the crab dip. It was meaty and seasoned very well. It didn't last long at all. For our entrees, we ordered the mango chicken and baby back ribs. The chicken was juicy and cooked perfectly. It was served over a bed of spaghetti and topped with diced mango and pineapple and fresh mango glaze. The ribs were also meaty and cooked well. I had two choices of sauce - traditional and sweet and tangy. I went with the sweet and tangy. I added classic mac and cheese and fries to my order. We both had freshly squeezed lemonade with our dinner. The servers (not just ours) were extremely pleasant and professional, yet warmly personal.
I gave them 3 stars because the food was great, but for 11.99 I did not get what I expected with my sides. What they gave me was not worth it. I got four wings, mac n cheese, and sweet potatoes and I was just dissatisfied with the amount I was given. I took another star away because I waited for carry out for over 30 mins. My reciept said my order was processed at 5:20, I didn’t get my food till around 6:10. The actual place is beautiful very small, but very nice in the inside. I would go again I would just call in and make sure I am satisfied with my sides before I leave. All works are very nice as well.
The food and service was excellent. I️ would have posted a picture but I️ ate everything off my plate soooo fast. The place is small. But the food is really good. The people were very nice I️ had crab dip, potato salad, and cabbage. They do not serve alcohol. However my husband had the lemonade and sweet tea. Very good I️ plan to visit again
A little gem hidden away in an unassuming strip mall. We came on a cold, snowy night and were greeted by warmth and the aroma of home cooking. Our server, Michael, seated us right away and was attentive through the meal. The sweet tea was spot on. The rolls were warm, fresh, and fluffy served with room temperature butter for easy spreading. The side salad was fresh, crisp, and sufficient. It was chopped into nice bite sized pieces which is a detail too many restaurants miss. We had fried chicken, mac and cheese, fried pork chops, greens, and the name sake candied yams. Everything was delicious, hot, nicely seasoned. Overall a very enjoyable dinner.
After hearing so many people talk about this place I decided to try it out.. so last Friday December 1st 2017 I did. I ordered take out it wasn't very busy. I ordered the fried cause you just can't go wrong with chicken. Well the candied yams did over cooled dried out and under seasoned. The macaroni and cheese greasy. I got my husband the pork chops well I could have just brought a pack 13 dollars they were so small and thin.. over cooled fresh tasting and like the grease they used to cool them in was old. I was so very disappointed. It was a very disappointing experience not to mention a waste of 30 dollars for all that I should have just went to Popeye's. They need to step there game up or get out of the business. And change there portion size. Oh did I forget to mention I got a side of potato salad small cup about 2 ounces for 2.50 and it wasn't good either
*update* our second visit was not as good. The quality seems to be inconvenient. Our server was less attentive. The rolls had been in the steamer drawer so long that they were rubbery. The salad had obviously been sitting out in the kitchen as the lettuce was warm. The chicken Parmesan was a disappointment. The chicken and noodles were overcooked. The tomato sauce was so sweet I found it inedible. We will try it again but my enthusiasm has been dampened.
